and the ball lazied up
into the center outfield
and fell into the outfielder's mitt

was thrown back
to second
before trapping the last man
right on home plate
with his own momentum
as he slid into
an outstretched hand

and after the umpire
flexed his call

the runners walked back to the dugout
with a slow 
easy trot
as if nothing
had happened
